Cubs Breakdown - 2011 Donruss Elite Extra Edition

2011 Donruss Elite Extra Edition
This prospect heavy issue arrived on the market recently, and this year's edition is pretty similar to what it has been in previous years. And honestly, that's a pretty good thing. Donruss Elite Extra Edition has the niche as an alternative to Bowman Draft Picks (or perhaps a complementary issue), and they fill it quite nicely. I don't make any secret that I love Chrome cards, but the foil cards in this issue are usually pretty attractive and the player pool is deeper than Bowman.

Speaking of the player pool, this year's issue delivers a grand slam for Cubs collectors. Eleven different Cubs prospects are featured, plus a 'Rated Rookie' card of Starlin Castro. This is the first card for several of the players and all of them have relatively few cards on the market. What more could we ask for?

As far as card design goes, I have to admit that I think this year's design is a little less attractive than in past years. And I don't think the die-cut pattern on the base cards is as good looking as in the past either. But one of the things about this issue is that the designs aren't all that different from year to year. So disliking the design is relative, it definitely doesn't kill the set.

The breakdown for the Cubs is below!
