The last major issue of the card year 2010 came out this past week with Topps issuing of Bowman Sterling. Unfortunately for Cubs collectors, our team traded away two of the Cubs players in the set in the week before it was issued. This takes the wind out of the sails a little bit for me on this issue.
But it isn't all bad news. I've liked most of the Bowman Sterling cards from the past, which is not surprising given that I love chrome cards. And this year's design is pretty good looking in my opinion, so I have no complaints about the cards themselves. Plus we get Hayden Simpson's first chrome auto, so the cupboard isn't completely bare as far as I'm concerned.
The one small criticism I have with this set is more around Topps recent scheduling than the set itself. We've had a bit of chrome overload in the last few months. Topps Chrome in October, Bowman Chrome in November, Bowman Chrome Draft in December, and now Bowman Sterling. I do love the chrome cards, but I also like to see interesting new card designs and ideas. And with most of the Chrome issues, it is pretty much only base cards and parallels. I'm excited for 2011 Topps Series 1 to come out next month so that we can have 20 different new set designs to look at!
That's pretty much all there is bad to say about this set. On to the cards!
