2010 Upper Deck #110 Kosuke Fukudome Ultra Rare Variation
One of these finally surfaced! As part of its 2010 set, Upper Deck included variations of 25 of the cards in the base set. They did not say specifically what the variation was on each card, instead leaving it up to collectors to find the variations on their own. There are four different levels of rarity for the variation cards - Common, Rare, Super Rare, and Ultra Rare. Fukudome is one of the Ultra Rares and I had not seen one until now. Most of the Common, and Rare variations have been identified, but not all of the Super Rare and very few of the Ultra Rare have been identified (at least to my knowledge). And I'm not sure all that many people are looking anymore, so I figured some of the Ultra Rares might never be identified. I was very happy to see this one this week so I could at least grab a scan of it.
The variation is the first card above (on the left) and the base version is second card (on the right). Upper Deck states that there are three differences on the Kosuke variation card. I can see two of them - he is missing his elbow guard on his right arm on the variation, and the grass extends closer to the bottom of the card on the variation (note that his foot is over the grass on the variation). I haven't been able to pick out the third difference yet. I might have to enlist my daughter who loves the 'what's different' puzzles you see in magazines. Ryan Theriot has an Ultra Rare variation in the set as well, I still have yet to see one of those. The Kosuke sold for $156.48 via an auction (eBay item #170549302845).
