15.99 Blue Light Special
The Cubs closed out their season today and Carlos Marmol did not pitch for the second game in a row. This left him with a final rate of strikeouts per nine innings of 15.99. I had been watching the game wondering if they would put him in despite being behind to see if he could set down two guys via strikeout in one inning to completely skip over the 15s and put the record in the 16s. But it was not to be. Although he didn't quite make it to 16, he still broke the old record by more than a full strikeout per inning. What an amazing year, it is one of my more memorable achievements by a Cubs player in my lifetime!
